Vanessa Hudgens! Rank 61!

37037

Vanessa Hudgens was one of the Top 99 Women in 2008 Edition. She was rank 61. Vanessa Anne Hudgens was born on December 14, 1988, in Salinas, California. While still a toddler, Vanessa and her younger sister, Stella, were uprooted and moved to San Diego. Vanessa’s passion for music was borne early on, and undoubtedly stems from the presence of her grandparents, who were actively involved in the big-band scene in the 1930s.

By the time she was just 8 years old, Vanessa successfully petitioned her parents to allow her to try out for a whole host of local musicals (including The King and I, Cinderella and Evita). It quickly became evident that Vanessa had a real gift for both performing and singing, and she consequently decided (along with her parents, of course) to spend some time in London studying drama and music.

Why SHE's no. 61?
As an AskMen.com reader, you're probably not familiar with Vanessa Hudgens' work in the tween-targeted High School Musical series. But you probably know her in a more intimate way from those scandalous nude photos that were circulating the 'net in 2007. And whether you saw the photos for a brief moment or kept them for your personal collection, they served as inspiration for voting this dark-haired beauty in to this year's Top 99. http://www.askmen.com/specials/2008_top_99/vanessa-anne-hudgens-61-5.html

Why is SHE famous?
There’s little doubt that Vanessa Hudgens is best known for her star-making performance High School Musical (2006) and High School Musical 2 (2007), the ridiculously successful Disney Channel movies that spawned hit albums, top-grossing tours and even a third installment, due to come out in 2008. Vanessa Hudgens also released her debut album V in 2006 and became a Neutrogena spokeswoman in 2007.

'Hannah' holds box-office sway with $29M

LOS ANGELES - First, she sells out a nationwide concert tour. Now Miley Cyrus and pop-star alter-ego Hannah Montana are selling out movie theaters in such record-breaking style that the film's run has been extended.

"Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert," the 3-D film chronicling her recent tour, was the biggest debut ever over Super Bowl weekend, pulling in $29 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Distributor Disney planned to have the movie out for only a week but now has decided to keep it in theaters until it runs its course.

The concert film featuring 15-year-old Cyrus both as herself backstage and as her Disney Channel character, pop sensation Hannah filled the void for fans unable to catch one of the live shows on the Hannah Montana 54-date tour.

The digital 3-D technology also gave fans the illusion of practically being at a live show, said Mark Zoradi, president of Disney's motion-picture group, who visited several packed theaters where the movie played over the weekend.

"The screaming level was unbelievable. It almost plays like a concert. At the end of a song, you have audiences clapping like you do at a concert," Zoradi said. "Parents who weren't able to get concert tickets, now they were able to take their kids and satisfy that demand, and kids were in a way able to be up close and personal, with the best seats in the house."

The film surpassed the previous Super Bowl record of $21.6 million set by "When a Stranger Calls," which opened over the same weekend two years ago.

Lionsgate's "The Eye," a remake of the Japanese horror hit, opened at No. 2 with $13 million. "The Eye" stars Jessica Alba as a blind concert violinist whose vision is restored by a corneal transplant that also results in terrifying visions.

"Desperate Housewives" co-star Eva Longoria Parker delivered a dud with her first top-billed movie, "Over Her Dead Body," which opened with a weak $4.6 million to finish at No. 11. Distributed by New Line, the movie stars Longoria Parker as a dead woman whose ghost tries to break up a romance between her fiance (Paul Rudd) and his new girlfriend.

Playing in just 683 theaters, "Hannah Montana" broke another record: never before has a movie in so few cinemas premiered at the top of the box office chart.

The movie averaged a whopping $42,460 a theater, compared to an average of $5,337 in each of 2,436 cinemas for "The Eye" and about $2,327 in each of 1,977 theaters for "Over Her Dead Body."

The grosses for "Hannah Montana" were boosted by higher admission prices many theaters charged because of the 3-D format. Tickets for "Hannah Montana" ran as high as $15, roughly 50 percent more than the top price for other movies.

The success of "Hannah Montana" showcased the commercial prospects for an upcoming wave of 3-D releases, both new movies such as this summer's adaptation of Jules Verne's "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and rereleases such as the first two "Toy Story" films in 3-D versions.

Digital projection allows sharper and more realistic images than old-fashioned film 3-D, a 1950s fad revived only occasionally over the decades. Now, many big studio films come out in 3-D versions.

Those releases typically do three times more business than 2-D versions, said Michael Lewis, chairman and co-founder of Real D, whose digital-projection 3-D technology was used in most theaters showing "Hannah Montana" and will be used in an upcoming wide release of another concert film, "U2 3D," now playing in limited release.

The 3-D technology eventually could expand turn theaters into venues showing live concerts and sporting events, Lewis said.

"There are a lot of places, a lot of small towns where we have Real D in place where U2's not going to go, Hannah Montana's not going to play there," Lewis said. "They'll be able to see it in theaters, and in my view maybe with a better seat and better experience than if they were actually there live."

Hollywood's box-office roll continued, with the top-12 movies taking in $101.5 million, up 43 percent from Super Bowl weekend a year ago. Movie attendance so far this year is up nearly 11 percent, according to box-office tracker Media By Numbers.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.

1. "Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert," $29 million.

2. "The Eye," $13 million.

3. "27 Dresses," $8.4 million.

4. "Juno," $7.5 million.

5. "Meet the Spartans," $7.1 million.

6. "Rambo," $7 million.

7. "The Bucket List," $6.9 million.

8. "Untraceable," $5.4 million.

9. "Cloverfield," $4.9 million.

10. "There Will Be Blood," $4.8 million.

Talking with JAMIE LYNN SPEARs

After graduating from the Nick hit comedy show All That to her own series, Jamie Lynn is taking showbiz by storm. But this teen star knows what's real, like staying close to home. She arranges her schedule so she only works during the summer and is back home in Kentwood, Louisiana, for the school year. "I do all my filming in the summer so I can go to school and hang out at the mall with my friends." OK, so it takes her 30 minutes to get from her little town to the nearest mall and an hour to get to her fave store, Abercrombie & Fitch, but for Jamie Lynn, it's the perfect arrangement.

Like Zoey, who's one of the first girls to attend a formerly all-boy's school, this Southern belle sometimes feels like a fish out of water in Hollywood. But the 14-year-old surrounds herself with family and friends, including long-time best buds Sarah and Leigha who join Jamie Lynn during the summer. And she never goes anywhere without her "baby," Allie, a cross between a yorkie and a poodle.

Jamie Lynn admits she's not as girlie as Zoey. "I think we are alike in other ways. Zoey is a leader who speaks her mind and she's determined to succeed at her new school. She's also friendly, outgoing and athletic, especially in basketball, and so am I."

Miley Talks to Teen About Emily Osment

Miley Cyrus Talks to Teen about one of her closest friends – on screen and off – Emily Osment!

TEEN: What was it like when you first met Emily?
MILEY: When we first met, automatically she and I were really, really close. When we’re together we’re never quiet because there’s so much to talk about and there are so many stories. Every day it's something new for us. When you’re with someone all the time, it's more than just she and I are friends, we’re sisters now. When we first met we had an instant friendship and now we’re more like sisters. We love each other like sisters. We fight like sisters. It’s always like that.

TEEN: What was your first impression of her?
M.C.: As soon as she walked out of the room I said, “Mom, she’s so tiny!” I’m not that tall. I’m like 5'4, so I’m not that tall, but she was itty-bitty.

TEEN: What’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened when you two were together?
M.C.: We find it hilarious to make fun of each other and make ourselves do the dumbest things possible because, again, with sisters that’s kind of your goal. It was my first-boyfriend episode, where Hannah gets this really hot 10th grade boyfriend and he’s one of my friends, actually. He came on the show. But there was kind of a party going on in my dressing room – there were a ton of people in here. I was leaving my dressing room and she stuck her foot out thinking I was going to stumble but not actually go down. No, I do a Superman. I am in the air and fall flat on my face for 10 seconds. I’m thinking, Maybe no one saw this. I get up and she’s just cracking up laughing. She’ll never let me forget it. But I’m getting her back slowly but surely.

TEEN: Have you played practical jokes on each other?
M.C.: We try! We try to get some. Mostly our things are "yo momma" jokes. Our director actually got me a Yo Momma book. You fill it out and it’s like a parking ticket. You give it to someone and it says "Yo Momma" at the top. You know how you always think of yo momma jokes after you’ve fought with someone? So you fill in how long it's been since you fought and then you check Yo Momma this and that. I just gave Emily one that says, “Cancel my subscription, I’m tired of your issues.” So that’s the thing that we’re doing. We’ve all got these tickets we put in everyone’s dressing rooms, so when you get in there you get what the person is thinking right now.

TEEN: What’s something people would be surprised to know about Emily?
M.C.: It's kind of switched around on the show how we are. On the show Lily is kind of the crazy one and I’m more keeping my friends in line. But in real life it’s definitely switched around. She’s the one who is always like, “Get this together, Miley. Make sure you read your script tonight. I’ll call you on Monday to do this.” She’s kind of like an older sister, so she watches out for me and I do the same for her and make sure she’s still having a good time. She’s also teaching me how to knit, so she’s more of a crafty person and I’m not that good. She got me hooked on scrapbooking. She made me the best blanket last year and I sleep with it every night.

Miley Cyrus: You'd be surprised to know...

Emily Osment told TEEN that one of the things that would surprise our readers about Miley is that she's an oral-hygiene freak!

"Miley brushes her teeth all the time. Whenever I spend the night at her house she'll say, 'Emily, I'm going to brush my teeth now. Are you going to brush your teeth, too?' And I'll say, 'Yes, Miley, I'm going to brush my teeth.' And she'll say, 'No, now. You have to brush them now.' She's obsessed with it!"

No wonder her smile is so white and bright!
